HFIR Patch
HFIR Reduction v5.2
HFIR Patch - NIST/SANS IGOR package to reduce HFIR SANS data.
NOTICE: The HFIR reader for the NIST macros is no longer supported and will not work for the new tube detctors. HFIR reduction is now available through MANTID.
Special notes:
Beginning with version 5 of the NIST developed, IGOR based reduction software, all facility specific functions were moved to a single file in order to facilitate collaborative development. Currently ANSTO, ILL, and HANARO have developed such files for their respective faciities. The latest version of the reduction package, version 7 released in April 2010, includes a HFIR version (HFIR reduction v5.2) developed by the DANSE SANS team. Trunk versions of the IGOR based reduction software along with planned features can be obtained at: danse.chem.utk.edu/trac
Installation and Usage:
- IgorPro version 6.1 or higher is required for this package. IGOR Pro and the free demo version of IGOR are available from Wavemetrics.
- Download and install the NIST/SANS IGOR package 7 following the instruction at www.ncnr.nist.gov/programs/sans/data/red_anal.html.
- For systems that have the NIST/IGOR SANS package version 7, the HFIR reduction execution file can be found in the folder of '\NCNR_SANS_package\NCNR_SANS_Utilities\s\Other_Facilities\'. Double click 'HFIR_Reduction_v5.2.pxt' to start.
- For users who already installed the NIST/IGOR SANS package version 7 but can not find 'HFIR_Reduction_v5.2.pxt' file, download it here and double click it to start (No installation is reguired).
- It is possible that 'Patching' is not working on some parameters for the data files that have missing entry lines (; it applies to all NIST/Igor package 7 versions <= 7.04b). If this problem occurs to you, replace the "HFIR_DataReadWrite.ipf" file in YOUR FOLDER of "\NCNR_SANS_package_7.04b\NCNR_User_Procedures\Reduction\SANS\" with this file here.
- For users who want an older version, check here.
Issues:
- Due to the frequent lack of key metadata in current HFIR data files (wavelength, beam centers, attenuation factors, etc) it is usually necessary to use the patch function before reduction can proceed..
- In the 'Patch' panel, the 'Attenuator number' stands for attenuation in percent, for example 0% is for no attenuator at all. This definition is different from the NIST data reduction.
- Some features such as 'Make DIV...' and 'NG1 Files...' in the 'Misc Ops' tap under the main control panel will not work because those feature are only for the NIST binary data system.
- In 'Patch' panel, the sample aperture diameter value should not be patched due to a crashing related bug: This bug was fixed since the NIST/Igor Package v7.03:)
- For sensitivity correction, use the flood pattern data in '.xml' format (given by HFIR SANS instrument scientists) as if it is a DIV file. So, converting to DIV is not needed for HFIR SANS data.
Download links:
- IGOR is available from Wavemetrics
- Note that the free demo version is 100% functional for 30 days. After that a few features will be turned off but the program can still be used for reduction.
- XML utilities: This utility is already included in the NIST/SANS IGOR package 7.
- NIST/SANS IGOR Package 7 installer
- HFIR_Reduction_v5.2.pxt (execution file)
